The general idea is to provide an overview of the basics of classical and quantum information theory. We start by discussing the two basic theorems whose introduction founded the field, known today as Shannon coding theorems. After this, we discuss some aspects of the quantum version of the theory, followed by some consequences like cryptography and quantum computation, especially quantum algorithms. Finally, we discuss some recent applications.
